Computer Science Immersion (CSI) Program

Computer Science Immersion (CSI) Program

We had a parent information night on February 15 at 6 PM.  You can view the Parent Information Night video.  Please e-mail Mr. Borchard if you have any questions,

Santa Rosa Technology Magnet School (SRTMS) strives to lead the District in new and innovative technology.  SRTMS piloted and established the 1:1 laptop program, well before it became a District-wide program.  We are excited to lead our students into an innovative new program.

SRTMS staff agreed to establish a computer science immersion (CSI) program for the entire student body as of the 2023-2024 school year.  We will be collaborating with CodeCampus as we launch the CSI program.  The staff worked together and explored different aspects of the CSI program to ensure it fits into existing technology programs established at SRTMS.

The goal of the program is to teach computer programing, using programs like Scratch 3 and Mindcraft Education, so all students can implement their new skills across all curricular areas. The CSI curriculum will produce students who can harness the power of technology to innovate and create applications that have the potential to change the world.

The program will begin in the fall of 2023.  With lessons at every grade level, all students can immediately utilize the CSI curriculum.  We are excited to see the impact of this program on the technology focus at SRTMS.

Highlights of the Computer Science Immersion Program

  • One day a week, a 45-minute lesson in each TK-5th grade class and in each middle school homeroom.
  • Lesson plans are highly distinct at each grade level, with 40-50 lesson plans available in the entire program. Students can build upon skills, so the assignments become more complex and customizable as the students gain skills.
  • All coding lessons can match up to current ELA and math standards, so animation, games, presentations, and applications can go across all curricular areas.
  • Students have access to various coding programs and languages in Scratch, JavaScript, Python, and Minecraft Education.
  • CodeCampus curricula have been developed, tested, and refined in California schools, so the lessons are teacher and student-friendly to help maximize learning.
  • No matter the student's background in coding and technology, he/she can be successful in our program.
